Adair’s Bridge
Adair’s Bridge, also known as Cisna Mill Bridge, was built in 1864 (builder unknown) and is the oldest bridge in Perry County. This Burr Arch Truss bridge is 176 feet long by 14 feet 3 inches wide and has an 11 feet 4 inches interior height. Planking is 3-inch boards laid crosswise. Reinforced with steel I-beams in 1919, the bridge was refurbished in 2007. The bridge spans Sherman’s Creek at Cisna Run in Madison Township on SR3008 just off Rt. 274, two miles before Andersonburg and is owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
From Harrisburg: take Interstate 81 to exit 67. Take Rt. 322/22 approximately 20 miles to the exit for Newport and New Bloomfield. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Rt 34. Travel 1 mile and cross the Juniata River on the old Iron Bridge, continuing straight through town (Market St.) to the stop sign at the corner of 4th and Market St. Turn left on Rt 34 for 5 miles to New Bloomfield. At the Square in New Bloomfield, continue straight through on Rt 274. Travel approximately 14.2 miles. 2 miles before Andersonburg, turn left at the crossroad on Crouchtown Road (T3008) and proceed 0.3 miles to the bridge.
