Fleisher’s Bridge

Located near Newport, PA in Oliver Township, the bridge spans Big Buffalo Creek. It was built by Yohn & Ritter in 1887 and features Burr arch truss construction.  The bridge is 125 feet long by 17 feet wide with an interior height of 11 feet 9 inches.  It was reinforced in 1960 with two 30-foot I-beams to allow continued use,  and planking is 2 inches by 14 feet.  It has stone mortar abutments and parapets.

From Harrisburg: Take Interstate 81 (Exit 67) take Rt 322/22 approximately 20 miles to the exit for Newport and New Bloomfield. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Rt 34.
Travel 1 mile and cross the Juniata River on the old Iron Bridge, continuing straight through town (Market St) to the stop sign at the corner of 4th and Market St.
Turn right on 4th St and continue for 1 mile to Fairgrounds Road.
Turn left on Fairgrounds Road and travel up the hill. Stay straight at the top on Fairgrounds Road for .2 mile to Fleisher’s Bridge. The road beyond the bridge is a “No Outlet” and ends on private property. (Please respect the privacy of the area.)
